5Rhythms Newcastle with Michelle Lampis

About me

I am a certified 5Rhythms Teacher, Dance & Somatic Movement Therapist (MA) & Mental Health Social Worker. I am wildly passionate about the healing power of dance and I hold a grounded, safe and gentle space.

I first fell in love with the freedom of dancing  as a teenager attending street parties in my local neighbourhood in Newtown, Sydney.

I landed on a 5Rhythms dance floor in my late 20’s while living in London UK. I had finally found what I was looking for and after dancing the 5Rhythms for a decade and experiencing the transformational benefits of healing in motion I moved to New York City in 2012 to further immerse myself in the dance and somatic movement world.

In this time I completed a Masters in Dance & Somatic Movement Therapy and the 5Rhythms Teacher Training. I have also recently completed a 1 year program in Somatic Psychotherapy (IOSP).

Over the years I have learnt from many incredible movement pioneers like Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen (Body Mind Centering), Daria Halprin (Life/Art Process), and Mary Abrams (Continuum), also diving into practices such as Authentic Movement, TOFF Technique, Alexander Technique and many more!

I blend this tapestry of experience into each and every class.

ABOUT 5RHYTHMS

The 5Rhythms is a global dance meditation practice. While a seemingly simple process, the 5Rhythms facilitates deep and unending explorations, moving the dancer beyond self-imposed limitations and isolation into new depths of creativity and connection.

I keep coming back to the 5Rhythms as my main practice because it offers a uniquely simple but solid container for connection and transformation. It is such an honour to carry forth Gabrielle Roth’s life’s work.

Dancing the 5Rhythms is a dynamic way to both workout and to meditate in the same breath.

Each class is guided to help you unlock freedom in movement by learning to move with all of your experience – resistance, joy and everything in between. We practice letting go of things that no longer serve us and opening to the things that do, trusting our bodies to guide us.

You can read more about each rhythm here

Every BODY is welcome. No previous dance experience necessary, all ages and abilities welcome.
